My Studio Shiatsu

About me and how I got to know shiatsu

My name is Brona Smrzova and I was born in a small village located in the South Moravia region in the Czech Republic. Already as a small child I fell in love with the nature, with our Earth which awakened in me the curiosity to involve myself in the mysteries and spirituality of all that surround us and which gives us a life force.

Throughout my life I have always looked for something that could bring me satisfaction and awareness of who I am, what I would like to transmit to the world and how I could help those around me.

I followed various paths looking for what was in my heart, I attended various courses before understanding that in shiatsu I finally found what I was looking for.

"Day by day, what you choose, what you think and what you do is who you become" (Heraclitus)

"Fix the inside and the outside will fix itself." (Hermann Hesse's Siddharta)

And the story continues

At the age of 19, I went to live in United Kingdom where I met a person who was very dear to me, whom I saw later again in my life and who introduced me to shiatsu. It was a magical moment and the word I would use is amazement. I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful and relaxing a shiatsu treatment can be. I felt renewed and rebalanced.

The years passed

Only in 2015 did I come into contact with shiatsu again. I contacted shiatsu therapist due to health problems and I began a journey of healing and personal growth that lasted over 2 years. It was a wonderful experience.

First course 2018

This technique not only helped to heal myself but more importantly, it helped me to understand that I needed to change myself. Deep down I felt that I wasn't so happy with the way my life was going. I became so passionate about shiatsu that I decided to attend the courses organized by the same therapist.

Professional studies 2018-2021

There was nothing that could stop me from continuing my studies. I decided to attend the three-year course at a school in Milan and after completing 2 theses, I graduated in October 2021. It was truly a personal journey to understand who I am, what I am made of, what I would like to do, where I would like to go. And I realized that my journey was shiatsu. I realized that I would like to pass this beautiful "art" to the others. I realized that I would like to make people feel better. I understood that I would like to embrace and pass the touch of shiatsu to those who want to try it and to those who need it.

Post-master's degree 2022-2023

After graduating from the school, I continued my studies and decided to attend the master's course at the same school. This path was a deeper knowledge of what I studied and further personal growth, what's more, meeting fantastic group of people. Furthermore, I attended the course for instructors and two other courses for children and teenagers for I would wish to introduce this art to them too. I believe it is very important for children to experience it as it develops the ability to express themselves and to have self-confidence, increases the ability to concentrate and brings calm. And from here, my professional and personal growth continues...

February 2024

I found a great desire to study and I discovered that I would like to know and understand various mental and physical balance techniques. And so it happened, in February I participated in Level 1 Foot Reflexology course. It was interesting and certainly aroused in me the curiosity to know more. In September I attended an update workshop.

April 2024

In April I attended a Level 1 Reiki course. I heard about this Japanese technique but I didn't have much knowledge of what it was exactly. Therefore I enrolled in the school that teaches the original Usui method. It was a beautiful experience that allowed me to meet people who had the desire to get to know each other better, to change the things that were not going well in their lives. After the course I had the opportunity to practice Reiki and the results are surprising. I would like to continue studying and participate at other levels.

July 2024

In the middle of summer I had the opportunity to participate in the Level 2 Foot Reflexology course. I understood better how reflexology works in relation to the organs, viscera and various parts of the body inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine and also how to apply pressure to different points of the sole of the foot. It has been a nutricious experience.

October 2024

It happened to me that I came across this course. It has always been a great interest of mine to pass my shiatsu knowledge to the children. To be a part of this workshop was a great opportunity for me to learn new techniques, such as how to work with shiatsu on newborn babies, bigger babies and then on older kids when they suffer various pains, when they get sick and so on. Furthermore, we learned some techniques that can be practised on pregnant women in order to relieve their discomforts connected to pregnancy or during their labor. It has been definately a huge  enrichment for me.

December 2024

I promised myself to pursue a further level of the Reiki technique and here I am (Level 2). It was a very interesting course, very deep since we talk about the energy and I was happy to be a part of it.
I have learned new and more powerful techniques that can be used on myself as well as other people, especially how to use distance Reiki. This can very useful for those who are far away or unable to come to the studio. Distance Reiki
allows practitioners to send healing energy to individuals, situations, or events regardless of their physical location.....a beautiful experience of deep relaxation.

It was a lot of fun and at the same time very relaxing, the heat spreading and the sensation of feeling the flow of energy in the body.                                             Moxibustion or moxa (burning herb) is a therapeutic practice of T.C.M. (traditional Chinese medicine) widely used in the East. It can be used as a single technique or combined with other techniques such as shiatsu, acupuncture. It involves using the cigar-shaped stick of an herb called mugwort or the charcoal stick to heat the meridians, certain areas of the body or specific acupuncture points. Burning mugwort or charcoal stick on the skin stimulates blood circulation and Qi flow. It is hypothesized that moxa disperses cold and dampness in the body and tones Yang.

February 2025

I was attracted to this particular course led by a French practitioner and teacher Antoine Di Novi. There was a very interesting theoretical part, but above all a lot of practice combining traditional and ancient shiatsu with modern shiatsu, therefore uniting the Western world with the Eastern one; therefore the connections between Chinese and Japanese studies, modern knowledge of physiology, palpatory anatomy and the analgesic points described by Dr. Valleix. The treatments were aimed at pain problems, neuralgia and inflammation of nerves and tendons in various areas of the body; starting from the head and face, passing through the gluteal and abdominal region and ending with the lower limbs and feet.

March-April-May 2025

To cultivate my interest in shiatsu, I wanted to learn the meridian stretching technique, called Taiso stretching or Keiraku Taiso. I took a class on-line with Susanna Roccio where I also learned some Do-In techniques (useful for energetic reactivation). Taiso stretching is a sequence of exercises created by Master Shizuto Masunaga which works on our energetic imbalances to restore the proper flow of Qi. These exercises work on all 12 main TCM meridians. This technique offers several benefits, including restoring Qi, greater body flexibility, releasing tensions, breathing benefits and restoring calm.

May-June-July 2025

Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient Japanese technique that uses gentle, sustained touch of the fingers and hands on specific points or areas of the body, known as energy security locks (ESL). I took a basic course (Level 1) with Ulrike Sieferle and really enjoyed it. As soon as I have the opportunity, I will enroll in other levels. Jin Shin Jyutsu restores energy flow (the energy channels are similar to those in TCM), dissolves physical and mental blockages, and provides a sense of well-being. It encourages listening to oneself with a simple gesture and touch of the hand, which can also be done alone (self-healing).

I had the opportunity to attend this conference, which covered two different but related topics. The I Ching, also known as the Book of Changes, is one of the oldest books in Chinese culture. It is a powerful tool for reflection and wisdom. This ancient oracle, composed of 64 hexagrams, has been used for millennia as a tool of divination and spiritual guidance.Chirology, on the other hand, is the art of reading destiny and observing the hands: their shapes, lines, mounts, and nails. Observing the hand reveals the past, present, and future. We are born with certain lines already marked on our hands, and reading them can tell us a lot about our character, about ourselves.

Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) offers a unique insight into the structure of the vital breaths, known as Shen, responsible for what characterizes human life. The Shen, the breath of life, distinguishes humanity from the rest of creation. The Shen resides in the heart, but humanity possesses other spiritual modalities: the Hun, which resides in the Liver; the Po, which resides in the Lungs; the Yi, which resides in the Spleen; and the Zhi, which resides in the Kidneys. During these meetings, we discussed the Ben Shen Vegetative Souls, a reflection of the celestial order in humanity, and their mutual relationships. When we speak of CCM, we are referring to the most ancient medical models.

A great moment has arrived for me. I find myself in the presence of a great Master, the son of the founder of Masunaga-style shiatsu, Master Haruhiko Masunaga. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. Shizuto Masunaga's philosophy fascinates me, and spending an entire weekend with his son was a dream come true. Master Haruhiko follows in his father's footsteps and therefore teaches exactly the same shiatsu, without modifications. And it was fascinating to learn an original style. Master Haruhiko is a very humble person and possesses enormous expertise. I am deeply grateful for this incredible experience.

October 2025

A different but very useful course for understanding who we are, what opportunities we have in life, what potential we have, how to use it best, and where we can go in our life. Numbers can tell us all this and much more. Analyzing our date of birth, our first and last name, and where we live can reveal a lot about us. Numbers can help us in many everyday situations, in relationships, and at work. We are surrounded by numbers, and numbers influence our lives. We can understand our personality, our life purpose, what we need to learn and understand, and why we are here.

What a wonderful opportunity to participate in this workshop. I had never heard of Kenbiki, an ancient Japanese technique that can also be integrated with shiatsu. Kenbiki is the art of rocking. It is a silent dance that reminds us of the waves of the sea, our own breathing, the flow of a child in the womb, the cycles of life, and life itself. Through different types of rocking, we connect with our breath and our inner listening. Many tensions, blockages, and knots, both physical and emotional, that we carry within us are released in the tendons, muscles, and joints. It was a silent journey toward deep relaxation.
